Safety tips for live rooms and video calls

Most calls on Tango are friendly and over in a few minutes. A few simple habits keep it that way: a camera frame that gives nothing away, chat that stays public-square friendly, a healthy suspicion of money requests, and a quick next, report, block when something feels wrong.

The one rule?

If something feels off, tap next first and think later. Then report and block. For how the platform protects you, see is Tango safe.

01before you go on camera

Set up a frame you are happy with

The easiest safety step happens before the first call. Check the frame first: envelopes showing your address, a school crest, a recognisable window view, family pictures. Move anything that says where you live or work out of frame. A plain wall or a bookshelf is perfect.

Pick a display name that is not your full real name, and keep your profile photo, if you add one, free of identifying details. None of this makes calls less fun; it just means a stranger only learns what you choose to tell them.

  • Plain background
  • No mail or ID in view
  • Nickname, not full name
  • Light in front of you

02in a live room

Enjoy the stream, keep your details

Live room chats are read by the host and by everyone else watching. Treat them like a public square: friendly is great, personal is not. Do not post your phone number, social handles or location in the comments, even if someone asks nicely.

Gifts are a fun way to say thanks to a host, and they only go through the gift buttons. If anyone in a room, host or viewer, asks you to send money another way, it is not part of Tango Live and you should report it.

03in a one-on-one call

You set the pace

Three dials stay in your hands during a private call: camera on or off, how long you hang around, and how much you reveal. Use voice or text mode on nights you would rather not be seen. End any call that makes you uncomfortable with the next button; you never owe anyone an explanation.

Remember that we do not record calls, but the other person could capture their screen. A good rule: only show or say what you would be fine seeing again. Tips for making calls enjoyable are on Tango video chat.

04money

Spot the money tricks early

Nearly every scam on any chat service ends with a request for money. These are the patterns to recognise:

  1. 01

    The emergency

A sudden sad story and a request for help with a bill. End the call and report.

  2. 02

    The cheap coins

An offer to sell coins outside the site. Coins only come from the site itself.

  3. 03

    The verification link

A link to "verify" your account or "unlock" a feature. We never send these in chat.

  4. 04

    The move

Pressure to switch to another app quickly. Slow down; a genuine person will wait.

Set a monthly budget for coins before you start sending gifts. Our free page shows what costs nothing.

05when something feels off

Next, report, block: in that order

If a call or a room turns unpleasant, tap next first so it stops immediately. Then report the account from the same screen; the report sends the details a moderator needs. Finally, block it so you are never matched again. That whole sequence takes a few seconds.

If anything involves someone who looks under 18, threats, or a person in danger, report it and also email [email protected] with the time and display name. Our community guidelines explain what happens next.

06if you want to meet

Before moving off Tango

Sometimes a good call leads to "let us keep talking somewhere else". There is nothing wrong with that, but take your time. Follow each other on Tango and chat for a while first. Share social profiles only when you are comfortable, and never share passwords, codes or financial details with anyone. If you ever decide to meet in person, pick a public place, tell a friend, and arrange your own way there and back.

Safety questions

How do I stay anonymous on Tango?

Use a nickname, keep identifying items out of your camera frame, and use voice or text mode when you prefer not to show your face. Other people only see your display name unless you share more.

What should I never share on a video call?

Your home address, workplace, school, phone number, passwords, verification codes and card details. Hold back social profiles until you know someone better.

Someone asked me to move to another app. Should I?

Not quickly. Keep chatting on Tango and follow each other first. Pressure to move fast is a common warning sign.

How do I report someone in a live room?

Tap the report button on the stream or on the person's profile. It sends the details to a moderator automatically.

What happens after I block someone?

They cannot message you and will never be matched with you again.

Can I use Tango without showing my face?

Yes. Watching live rooms never uses your camera, and voice or text mode keeps it off during one-on-one calls.

I sent money to someone I met. What now?

Report the account on Tango, email us with the details, and contact your bank or payment provider straight away.

Is it safe to meet someone from Tango in person?

Take it slowly. Chat for a while first, meet only in a public place, tell a friend where you are, and get there and back on your own.
