About Tango: live, personal, honest

Tango on tangome.live is a web service for two simple pleasures: watching someone live, and talking to someone new face to face. We built it because most social apps had drifted towards endless scrolling, where you look at people but rarely meet them. Live rooms and one-on-one calls put the conversation back in the middle.

The team behind the site is small. We look after the matching, the live rooms, moderation, payments and support, and we read what people write to us. We would rather tell you plainly what Tango does than dress it up, which is why this page is longer than most about pages.

Tango takes two. That is the whole idea of a good video call: two people, each reacting to the other, nobody leading for long. The name fits the live rooms too, where a host and the chat play off each other all evening.

The address, tangome.live, reads as "tango me". Many people use that as the name itself and type tango me, tangome or tango.me when they look for us. However you spell it, you end up in the same place.

There are several apps in the stores that share the name Tango, including a well-known live streaming app. Tango on tangome.live is our own web service and is run independently; we are not the company behind those store apps, and accounts, coins and followers do not carry between them. If you already have an account with another Tango app, you will need to start fresh here, which takes no time because you begin as a guest.

This matters most for money. Coins bought on tangome.live only work on tangome.live, and we cannot recharge or refund accounts on any other app. If someone offers to top up "your Tango account" through us for cash or gift cards, it is a scam. Our free page explains how coins work here.

The hosts in live rooms and the people you meet in random calls are independent members, not our staff. They come from many countries, with the busiest hours in the American and European evening. What they share is an interest in meeting people live, and a set of community guidelines that everyone agrees to.

Most conversations are friendly, a little awkward at first, and over in a few minutes. Some turn into a follow and a message the next day. Tango runs in the browser because we think meeting someone should not require an install, an update and a storage warning. The web version gets new features the moment we ship them, works on phones, tablets and computers, and can live on your home screen as an icon. It also keeps us honest. A web page cannot hide a background process or quietly keep your camera on. When you close the tab, Tango is closed.
